Tuesday, February 20, 2024:

President Carlos Lucero presided and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, gave the invocation, and led us in the Four-Way Test.

Guests: We were joined by Lynn Walsh, Phyllis McQuaide, Roger Wheaton, Robert Whitacre, Dr. Gary W. Latson, Ted Presler, and Elaine Carlson.

Announcements: Ted Presler told us that the Natural History of the Gila Symposium is scheduled for February 28-March 2 at WNMU's Global Research Center. Peter announced that the Piano Concert on February 17 was quite successful, with a good turn-out and wonderful performances by pianists Becky Smith-Ladner, Maryann Marusich-Smith, Nada Dates, and Satoko Goellner, with Kevin Dvorak on cello. He said that final figures are not in yet, but it looks as though we will have a net of about $1,500 to be split between the Gila Regional Foundation and the Silver City Rotary Foundation.
Art announced that there would be a food delivery to the Bayard Schools from the Commons and a couple of volunteers will be needed on Wednesday.
Carlos also announced that next week we are scheduled to do packaging of hygiene supply bags, although Jim was not sure that the bags and supplies would be ready by then.

Happy Dollars: Dave Konopnicki put in a happy dollar celebrating his return to our meetings. He was away for a while and during that time his number of grandkids increased from 3 to 5. Sunny gave a couple of dollars to recognize the recent passing of Jim Callender's mother and to celebrate that she gave us Jim. The second happy dollar was to recognize that February 23rd is the 119th birthday of Rotary. Se also added another dollar for having Bart with us today.

Program: Carlos introduced Bart Roselli, who is a member but has not been to meetings for a while. Bart talked about what's happening at the Silver City Museum. He told us that the Museum had recently received a $100,000.00 economic development grant from the State Creative Industries Division to provide exhibits and activities about the history of Silver City and the region. He also reported that the Museum will work with the Town of Bayard to help in converting the old union hall in Bayard to provide an introduction to the history of the Mining District. He also described several other projects that the Museum is engaged in, including involvement in the Charter Day celebration, celebrating the history of Chihuahua Hill, and a project entitled Unpacking Silver City. Bart also invited members to become involved with the Museum as volunteers or to serve on the Museum Board.
