Tuesday, June 4, 2024:
President Carlos Lucero presided. He led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, gave an Invocation and led us in a recitation of the Four Way Test.

Gary Latson received his official Rotary adornments.
Announcements:
Kathy Eaton announced that the yard sale pulled in $1,502 from Peter Herzberg’s stuff, which is designated for the Humane Society. She thanked Linda, Jerry, Rosie and the others who helped stage the sale.
Peter Falley said that Harry Kellerman had sustained serious injuries as a result of a fall over the weekend. Harry is hospitalized in El Paso.
President Carlos reminded us that our June 25 meeting will be his Demotion Party and will be held at the Ice Cream Emporium downtown (opposite the Silco Theater).

Will Hawkins gave a comprehensive presentation on the capital needs of the Silver City School district. His slide presentation can be found at the web site below:
There is a 5-year master plan for the district, which includes a Facilities Master Plan
The district is experiencing a decline in enrollments
Over half the classroom seats are open
School consolidation is necessary
Deferred maintenance projects amount to $62.6 million
Priority 1 deferred projects (Roofs, floors, plumbing,etc) amount to $7 million
The current tax mill rate is inadequate to service bonds issued to finance maintenance projects.
A special bond rate election will occur in August via mail-in ballots. Will urged support for an increased mill rate which, while appearing dramatic, is modest compared to other districts in New Mexico and is comparable to the Cobre District rate.
President Lucero announced that there would be a board meeting after the next weekly meeting. He then adjourned the meeting.
